Sometimes it is okay to let your child throw a tantrum- especially if what you are doing is in their best interest. I would explain that it is not healthy to eat so much junk. Offer fruit and vegetables. And if she still throws a tantrum, let her. Eventually she will learn that throwing tantrums doesn't work. Until then, you just have to be sure not to give in. Make sure you tell her it is for her health, not b/c she is fat. I know it is much easier to give this advice than it is to follow it. But it is important to teach her when enough is enough. Let me know if you have more questions. You can also call my office at 516-801-0022 to discuss it further.

I didn't specify my question enough...<br/>I have tried many of your recommendations in the past because I have talked to Nutritionists about our problem. When I mean uncontrollable, thats exactly it. If you take away food or tell her no she throws a huge ccrying fit.

I would sit your child down and tell him, "We need to make some changes in our eating because we are not as healthy as we should be." In this case, it is easier to avoid the topic of fat. When your child has eaten an appropriate amount and is still hungry, you have a few options. First, try to get them to wait a bit. Tell them (and it is true) that it takes 20 minutes for your belly to tell your brain that you are full. Then distract your child and say that you will eat more in a little bit. If your child is still hungry after 20 minutes, offer fruits and vegetables. Please feel free to contact me if you have more questions.

How would you handle a child that is too young to notice their weight but to the eye they are clearly obese? What if the child ate uncontrollably?? How would you be able to help them?
